Demo: Trading Shares

Once the preliminary assignments are completed and students have been given ample time to research all the companies, trading can begin. Students are each given $10,000 to invest in the companies of their choice. They may invest the money in stocks, invest it in a bank Certificate of Deposit account, take out a loan from a bank, do nothing with it, or any combination of these options. Once trading opens, these options are available to participants 24 hours a day for the duration of the simulation.

Participants simply go to the Trading and Banking Center to either buy and sell shares in the companies in their market or to visit the bank to either take out a loan or make a loan repayment.

To purchase shares, students indicate the company and amount of shares bought or sold for each transaction. Each transaction (buy or sell) costs $20.00. Individual portfolios are immediately adjusted to reflect transactions. Share prices are shown on a real-time ticker board. Each buy and sell order affects the individual share price.

As mentioned above, buying and selling shares of stock is only one way to build a portfolio. Continue to learn about the banking options in simCEO.
